We use the Sonablate 500 as this gives superior results, with better retention of potency and a lower complication rate than other devices.

Furthermore, with the Sonablate 500, one can see the prostate tissue being destroyed as it is actually being treated. This is one reason why the complication rate is so low with the Sonablate.

The Sonablate 500 has a Neuro-Vascular Bundle Detector which makes it possible to image the neurovascular bundles (erectile nerves) during treatment , thus avoiding damaging them. This cannot be done with other devices.

The impotence rate of 28-30% is lower than those achieved with other devices (45–100%) and the incontinence rate (0–2%) is less than with other HIFU devices (1– 23%).

And 88% of the low risk patients in this study were disease free.
