HIFU is performed under epidural anaesthesia and takes 2 – 3 hours.

An ultrasound probe is placed in to the rectum and after carefully imaging the prostate, ultrasound is delivered into the gland, gradually destroying all of the prostate tissue from side to side, and from back to front.

At the end of the procedure, in selected cases, some of the destroyed tissue will be trimmed away through the urethra using a telescope. A urethral catheter will then be placed.
